Engagement | Chanel & Steyn

Updated: Apr 23, 2020

The best thing about love is that it cannot be expressed in words - even though we try. This is the reason why I love photography. There is a poetic quality to capturing couples in love. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

This engagement shoot was not only a lovely opportunity to capture and get to know Chanel & Steyn better, but we could enjoy the lovely fresh air and the lush green meadows of the Free State. We were blessed with rain this summer and Bloemfontein had the most beautiful hues of green.

I admire Chanel & Steyn very much, not only because of who they are, but for what they are as well. They are health workers and they contribute immensely to society. I am grateful for them.

Ps. do not miss the Meraci Expert tips at the end of this blog! Well worth the consideration.

Expert Meraci tips:

Choosing suitable attire for an engagement shoot:

Location:

  • Engagements shoots can be as informal or formal as the couple wish it to be. The first consideration for the attire is the location of the shoot. Informal jeans and button-down shirt would look lovely in a coffee shop or in nature. Formal attire will work well in a more formal setting, like old buildings or a grand venue. A formal dress in the botanical gardens will look quite strange for an engagement shoot.

No white t-shirts and jeans:

  • Engagement shoots is a great way for the couple to express their unique style. The once socially accepted white t-shirts and jeans does not do this justice. Your engagement shoot is an opportunity to be creative and great attire contributes to this.

Accessories:

  • Lovely accessories like bulky earrings or hats contribute to the "feel" of the engagement shoot. Being a person who enjoys eclectic or bohemian elements I feel that one or two great accessories really does contribute well to an engagement shoot. I would suggest that you do not use too many accessories.

Colour coordinate:

  • We are very lucky that bold colours, like yellow, are making a fashion comeback. Embrace this trend by coordinating your outfits with colours that match. Colours like emerald green, olive green, navy, yellow, maroon, burnt orange, brown and natural stone are in fashion.

Patterns:

  • Use patterns sparingly. If you are wearing a lovely flower pattern dress, a checkered shirt might clash with it. Please be sure and use only one pattern. :)

DRESS up:

  • A great dress can contribute beautifully to the engagement shoot. Lovely dresses will work very well.

YOU:

  • None of these tips will work if you are not true to yourself. The most beautiful a guy and gal can be, is authentic. Be authentic in your choice of outfits. Make the guidelines work WITH your own style.
